Why “Typical” Wellness Advice Makes Our Burnout Worse

Typical wellness advice assumes steady energy. Neurodivergent nervous systems need something different.

A lot of wellness advice sounds helpful on the surface.

Wake up earlier. Build a routine. Be consistent. Move every day. Eat better. Meditate. Get organized. Stick with it.

And for some people, that advice works fine.

But for ADHD and neurodivergent nervous systems, this kind of advice often misses the real issue. It assumes we have steady energy, steady attention, steady capacity, and steady access to our body’s signals.

A lot of us don’t.

We might not notice we’re hungry until we’re shaky. We might push through sensory overload because everyone else seems fine. We might use pressure to get through the day, then wonder why we crash later.

So when typical wellness advice tells us to “be more consistent,” it can make us feel like we’re failing at something that was never built around how our nervous system works.

That’s what I’m talking about in this week’s video.

I’m breaking down why common wellness advice can make neurodivergent burnout worse, and what we need to look at instead: energy, capacity, body signals, and self-trust.

I’m also working hard on building more YouTube videos for us, so if this topic speaks to you, please watch the video and follow along there. It helps me know these videos are reaching the people they’re meant for!
